sharmin+joel, rustic picnic wedding, stangate house adelaide

When I was looking for a wedding photographer, I knew what I wanted but couldn’t find anyone who fit the bill. Finding someone who we felt comfortable with and trusted to create something beautiful for us to remember our most special day together was harder than I thought it would be. After months of searching locally and feeling like my dream album was out of our reach – either by budget or by location – a friend sent us one of Ruby’s shoots. Immediately I felt she would be perfect, but just had to find out if she could come to us. When she confirmed she would be in Australia at the time I was over the moon. Ruby, you were a dream come true! You were a quirky little invisible spy all weekend, popping up to share a joke with our helpers and bringing a smile to everyone’s face. We hardly saw you yet the photos you took are a perfect reminder of the intimate moments between us, our friends and our family that keep bringing tears back whenever we look at them. Thank you so much and best of luck with your beautiful work. You have a true talent and we will always be so glad you could be part of our wedding. Thank you! Sharmin and Joel Paynter xo

I have been wanting to share this insanely beautiful DIY wedding for some time now. When Sharmin & Joel first contacted me, I knew I was going to fall in love with them – and I did. You know you have the right clients the moment they treat you as a friend, as part of their guest, not just a one time business thing.  I was really taken care of not only by these two lover birds, but as well as their families and friends. You know you have the right clients too when they truly appreciate art and being flexible and open to ideas.  I can not stop stressing over and over to my clients how important it is to choose the time of the day to get married, where to get married and how important it is to face your guests, not having your backs facing your guests instead.

Sharmin and Joel were truly easy to discuss with. They had a schedule, but they decided to trust me and play by ear. After the ceremony ended, I told them the sun was still pretty harsh to do a portrait session. They were cool with just mingling with their guests while waiting for the perfect light. This is what I love and appreciate, I put my whole heart when documenting a wedding and it makes me really happy when clients have the same goal as me to achieve the best images we can together on their special day.

Sharmin, Joel, their families and friends did an incredible job decorating the ceremony and reception themselves. All those beautiful junks (wooden crate, drawers, suitcases, jars etc) were all slowly collected by Sharmin for her wedding. She clearly knew how it wanted it to look. I went happily insane when I saw them setting up the place the day before the wedding day. Sharmin knew how much I love collecting junks that at the end of the night, she grabbed my hand and asked me to choose whatever I want. It felt like I was put into a store full of different shapes, sizes, flavors of candies and I could only take what is reasonable (I have a very small check in bag 🙁 ) She was so kind to give me a wooden crate along with three drawers from a sewing machine table. I was very determine to bring it back to Perth then Malaysia and finally to Poland….and yes, I did. My husband thought I was insane 🙂
